A well done mystery has suspense, tension, and intrigue. Writer, director, and producer Robbie Bryan’s iMurders fits that bill. He does a solid job of delivering a classic who-done-it with a modern twist. The film takes place in several cities and involves seemingly different and unrelated people. Their connection is a social networking site called FaceSpace (nice one guys) and an online role playing game. However, when things start to become too real; people start to get hurt. Bryan does a great job of giving us several Red Herrings so you never know who you can trust.
iMurders features quite a few cult favorites like Tony Todd (Candyman, Hatchet), William Forsythe (Devil’s Rejects, Boardwalk Empire), Margaret Colin (Independence Day, Unfaithful), and Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Lady’s Man, Colt 45 Commercials). The aforementioned actors all do a great job in their roles. However, if there was one weak point in the film it would be some of the lesser known actors like Frank Grillo. Grillo is unrealistic, unbelievable, and unsympathetic. He plays Joe Romano a retired cop. It’s not surprising that he is retired considering his detective skills are on par with Shaggy and Scooby Doo. Thankful some of his scenes are saved by fellow law enforcement characters Agent Washington (Todd) and Agent Lori Romano (Brooke Lewis). Lewis does a great job playing alongside Washington and does a masterful job of being sexy yet powerful.
iMurders’ few flaws are easy to overlook because you’re given an intriguing mystery. It would be tough for any viewer to solve Bryan’s puzzle and if they do then it’s most likely a lucky guess. Fans of a good mystery will want to check this one out.
